About the Researcher

Heather Woods, MEd, PhD Candidate

I am a doctoral candidate in the Faculty of Education at the University of Ottawa. I am interested in how social emotional learning is enacted and evolves within schools. Specifically, I’m curious how research, policy, and practice inform social and emotional learning.

I have been researching social emotional learning, aggression, bullying, and more specifically teachers’ self efficacy for addressing disruptive behaviour in the classroom for over 8 years. My previous research focused on how confident teachers were in their ability in prevent and intervene in bullying situations. From this research, I began to wonder about the larger context in which social emotional learning (e.g., well-being programs or bullying prevention) is enacted.

Thank you for your interest in this research and I look forward to working with you.
